About the Show

Something Cool is a brand new comedy drama coming-of-age murder mystery musical in one act featuring young, local talent and songs from Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, June Christy and Lola Albright

Willie Wood, a Westfield-based playwright, has created a script inspired by singer June Christy’s 1954 landmark jazz vocal, “Something Cool”. The script will be brought to life by five young actors on the stage of the Carmel Community Playhouse in Clay Terrace starting June 25th.  Proceeds from the show will benefit the Carmel Community Players.

Something Cool, set in 1953 Anaheim, California, is centered around two sisters, Phoebe and June, on a quest for love on the morning after Phoebe’s 18th birthday. Entering their friend Joey’s father’s bar, expecting a little fun, they get much more than they bargained for. At the bar they find Maggie, a shadowy traveler with a mysterious past, who is almost too willing to teach the ways of love.  They also find Peter, an impassioned young traveling salesman.  One of these two, and maybe both, has something to hide.  Can the girls find love? Can Maggie find redemption? And can they all find solutions to the mysteries that unfold? Come and see the show for these answers, and to experience the excitement, the romance, and nostalgic bliss of Something Cool.

Something Cool will open June 24th (OPENING NIGHT IS SOLD OUT!) at the Carmel Community Playhouse at Clay Terrace. Showtimes are June 25th at 2:30 & 8:00pm, June 26th at 2:30 & 8:00pm, and June 27th at 2:30pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors/students.
